Summer Break, Tournament, and Gradings

Congratulations to all of the High River Karate Club athletes who participated in the Karate Alberta Spring 2025 Tournament in Calgary on May 31st!

Congratulations to all of our Karate students who successfully graded for their next belt through the last 2 months!

We finished our last training session for the 2024/25 season on Thursday, June 26th, and we will be off for a well-earned break until September – stay tuned for a start date announcement later in August.

Karate Alberta Tournament

The Spring 2025 Karate Alberta Tournament is coming up on Saturday, May 31st 2025.

Who: Any interested High River Karate Club members (Yellow belts and above only)

What: Karate Alberta Spring 2025 Tournament

When: Saturday, May 31, 2025 – 9AM Start

Where: Joseph Kryczka Arena (Southland Leisure Centre)

2000 Southland Dr SW, Calgary, AB

Cost:

$50.00/person Single Event – Kata or Kumite

$20.00/person, For Second Events Kata or Kumite

$21.00 per Team, Team Kata

Ex. If you wish to compete in both kata and kumite, you would pay $70.00. If just kata, or just kumite, it would be only $50.

PLEASE CONFIRM DESIRE TO COMPETE BY THURSDAY, MAY 22nd AT THE LATEST

Karate Alberta Tournament Results

The High River and Vulcan Tekka Karate clubs represented at the recent Karate Alberta Tournament in Calgary on Sunday, April 28th. Congratulations to all of the students who participated, many of whom were first time competitors at a tournament of this size!

Karate Alberta Tournament

The upcoming Karate Alberta Tournament details:

Location: WEST ISLAND COLLEGE CALGARY – 7410 Blackfoot Trail S.E., Calgary AB

Date: Sunday, April 28th. 2024

Start Time: 9AM

Students who have confirmed with Sensei Robert that they are coming to the tournament have been registered already. Bring your fees to class ASAP.

The order of events (kata / kumite) will not be finalized until the day of the tournament. Please bring lots of snacks, lunch and water – there may not be time to leave the venue until your events are finished!

Competitors who are competing in Kumite (sparring), bring BOTH sets of pads (red and blue) as well as mouth guard and groin protector.

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

Karate Alberta Tournament

Last Sunday, April 30th, a few competitors from the High River and Vulcan Tekka Karate clubs participated in a Karate Alberta Tournament at the West Island College school in Calgary, Alberta.

Congratulations to all participants and good work competing against karate students from around the province!

We will be continuing to train at the High River Fitness location until the end of June 2023, and then we will be going on a well-deserved break until September 2023!
