Seiwa Kai Goodwill Tournament

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, students from the High River and Vulcan Tekka Karate clubs will be competing in the Seiwa Kai Goju Ryu Goodwill Kata Tournament in Calgary at the Guardian Angel School!

Check-in Time for Competitors – 9:30AM

Competition Start Time – 10AM

End Time – 2:30PM (expected)

Fees:

There is a $35 fee required per participant for entry into individual Kata competition.

There is an additional $30 fee required for any Team Kata entries (teams are typically composed of three people – $10/person).

Fees for the Vulcan Tekka and High River Karate Clubs must be paid in advance directly to Sensei Robert by March 24, 2023.

THERE IS NO FEE FOR SPECTATORS – ALL WELCOME TO COME WATCH AND CHEER ON OUR COMPETITORS!

Divisions:

Ages: 0-8, 9-12, 13-17, 18+

Colors: White, Yellow/Orange, Green/Blue, Brown/Black

Team Kata – Up to 13 years, 14 and up

Transportation:

If anyone would like to attend and does not have a ride, please let Sensei Robert know and we will arrange to carpool as-required.

The High River Karate Club is once again proud to bring you the 2023 Kata Tournament!

Time: 10AM to Finish

Open to all High River Karate Club and Vulcan Tekka Karate Club members – there is NO registration or participant fee for this event

Congratulations to Zack and JoAnna for successfully grading during our final training session for 2022!

JoAnna demonstrated a high degree of competency and attained the rank of green belt, while Zack also showed a clear focus on effort and technique in graduating from yellow to orange belt. Well done to you both!

We are now on break for the holidays, returning to training on Monday, January 9, 2023. Enjoy the season!

Back to Training!

We’re beginning the 2022/2023 year next month!

First training session will be: Monday, September 12, 2022 from 7PM-8:30PM

We are training at the same location as last year! The gym has transitioned to new owners and is listed under High River Fitness, located at 145 8 Avenue SE, High River, Alberta T1V 1R8, Canada

We are looking forward to seeing some returning faces, and hoping to see some new students – see you soon!

Grading and Last Class before Summer!

Congratulations to Ivy and Nathan for reaching the rank of Yellow Belt! These two worked incredibly hard for their first color belt, with grading on our final class of the year, May 26, 2022 and we look forward to seeing what you’re capable of when we resume training in September!

Kata Tournament

Last Saturday, March 26, Vulcan Tekka Karate Club and High River Karate Club members met at the 187 Foothills Air Cadets Squadron Hanger at the High River Airport for a Kata Tournament. Karate students competed for Gold, Silver, and Bronze in four divisions. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Nidan

Congratulations, Gillian, for achieving the rank of Nidan (2nd Degree) black belt!

Gillian has been a dedicated member of the club for the last 10 years and is always looking for ways to help others and make the club better. Since achieving her Shodan (1st Degree) black belt in 2015, she has continued training with the club and gaining experience in teaching new karate students and leading training classes when Robert is training with the Vulcan Tekka Karate Club.
